Hey everyone, safely back from a great family roadtrip to the Eastern Cape. Although we did visit some great photographic spots, the focus for me was quality family time - but that doesn't mean I didn't capture some new images. Here's a quick one, a cute little Cape Mountain Zebra foal captured at sunset two days ago in the Mountain Zebra National Park. This species is distinct from the frequently seen "Plains Zebra".
I captured this photo shooting into the setting sun with some dust in the air adding mood.
Will get stuck into the images that were posted in my absence ASAP!

Too central? Tell me what you think about the placement of the foal here...
+1 for everything haseeb said. Thank you for the great explanation, I was wondering how you got the "atmospheric" look, I like it. The other distraction for me is that one bright highlight below the right hind leg. I find my eye continues to fall off the foal, right onto that bright spot. That rim like is so sweet. Did you bring shadows up much on the foal? I like that there is enough detail in the foal, especially the face, to still be of interest.
Glad you and family are back safely and you obviously had a great time, we've missed you around here by the way:)
Had a look at your cute baby zebra and I really like the light and the rim, by the way that bright light below the hind leg is most probably a spider web?
I know this is how it was in terms of lighting, and obviously the haze caused a lack of contrast in the subject as well as surroundings. To me it is great for the atmosphere and the habitat looks stunning, I just find myself searching for a tad more definition in the subject. I am certainly not saying this is how it should be, you be the judge:) I did a levels and curves adjustment on the subject and upped exposure a bit. It is perhaps the opposite of what you were looking for when you took this frame but I thought a little exercise won't hurt, WDYT?
Surely this would make a lovely print, stunning light and I love the warmth here as it fits the scene beautifully, well seen and captured my friend, I never get tired of viewing your images
Hi Morkel - nicely seen and captured. I prefer your op without the boosted contrast and definition (sorry Gabriela). I agree on getting rid of the bright spot in the tree. I don't think it is too centered. I might prefer it a bit higher in the frame or a bit off the top though. Looking forward to seeing more from your trip.
I would move the foal a slither to the right and remove the bright spot.
Would like some detail on the little zebra to anchor image.
Did you use -EV here?
Thanks folks.
Bright spot = a bug that was lit up by the sun, will remove it.
Gabriela, thanks for the effort, but a tad too much contrast for me too.
Andre, the detail on the foal is just right for me actually...but will play with moving the foal to the RHS for sure ;)
