The male of this species is almost always in the spotlight, but not this time as this gorgeous hen came to steal the show for a few moments.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/3200s., f/8, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, small crop top and left, darkened the pupil and lightened the iris, removed a bluish cast on the back 1/3 of the body. Audio used to encourage the subject closer.

Hi Dan, excellent low angle, and just love the soft light and pastel colours. Well exposed on the browns of the Buffelhead, and I do like the few droplets on her.

The soft blue background makes for a very tranquil image and she seems calm and dignified in her surroundings. I like the detail and one can almost feel the downy softness of her feathers. Very nice. steve

Delightful shot Daniel. Nice blurred reflection and I love the little spikey bits on the head.

Simply beautiful, great smooth BG and whilst she is obviously pin sharp, the overall look is fantastically soft
