Default A peck on the cheek

    Attached Images Attached Images

    Fuji S5, Nikkor 200-400 @ 240, ISO 640, F4, 1/400 sec. No flash. Cloudy day.Cropped. Original a bit under exposed.

I noticed that the male wood duck was pecking on the cheek of the female again and again while swimming along. And so I thought it would be good if I could get one on film...so to speak.

    Thanks for looking.

Awahh....Nice colors and you have good eye contact with the male, an adorable pose! A bit lower angle I think would have been nice.

Seems like noise or something going on with the female? Not so much with the male but some?

Hah! I'd just like to get this close to wood ducks!

I have a question....Is there a Moire Pattern that I am seeing in the feathers? If so what can be done to prevent this? Sorry I guess this is two questions.....

Regardless if it is I really like this photo. Wood Ducks are a fav.

    Thanks
    Bill

    Thanks for the comments!

I was on a trail about 7 feet up shooting down to the ducks about 40 ft away in the water. I guess I couldn't ask for too much luck :o

Now that I looked at it, perhaps I did sharpened a bit too much for this posting. As for the noise, the original was under-exposed a bit and so...need to do a better jop in pp, I guess.

As for moire pattern, I don't know what that is at all :o Ok, somebody please tell me about it.

Wood ducks are pretty, aren't they? :)

I could not begin to explain it, but this may help.

That's OK, Bill. I never thought you meant to change the subject; I think you were simply pointing out issue that the photo might have.

Hi Desmond the Morie Pattern is related to the camera and the specific color pixels. It is manifested in banding and usually occurs when a high contrast line intercept the geometric pattern made by the color pixels. Something I would highly recommend not loosing sleep over. See more of those in other types of photography.

As presented would crop some from the top of the image, I like the water a lot as the behavior..... and speaking of behavior ....if you would have stayed around probably would have recorded another !!!:) Very pleasing image !!! I like it a lot !!!

    Nicely done Desmond,
I like the interaction here. The Wood Duck is my favorite. I do agree on a lower capture angle; but sometimes you have to make the best of things as is. Congrats...
