This is a crop from another Osprey image I took on Dewees Island, SC, recently - same bird that I posted yesterday. The original had one wingtip cut off, so I though this crop was an improvement.
D300, Nikon 80-400, hand-held.
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/1250 second = 0.0008 second
# Lens F-Number/F-Stop = 56/10 = F5.6
# Exposure Program = aperture priority (3)
# ISO Speed Ratings = 200
Exposure Bias (EV) = 0/6 = 0
Metering Mode = pattern / multi-segment (5)
it does look like a large crop. there's lots of noise in the image. even in the lighter areas where its normally at a minimum. i'd say run some NR but if you do you will lose the detail in the bird. so i really dont know what to say!! leaving this one to the experts!!
I like the crop and that great 'look' the osprey has. How big of a crop is this? Looks like maybe underexposed and brought back up maybe? Quite a bit of noise in this image compared to the other one?
Hi, and thanks - Indeed it was quite a large crop, and I played around with various settings in Noise Ninja trying to balance noise reduction versus loss of detail, and anyway this is what I came up with.
Hi Richard Do like cropping better than clipping !!! Just need to figure how to get closer to the bird !!
Exposure wise not much you could do. It needed plus compensation for the underside of wings but would have blown out the head and tail feathers. Softer light is the key. One interesting thing about these birds.... they need sun to fish !!! Difficult to get under ideal conditions !!!
