Taken at the U of Idaho's aviary in Moscow, ID, in May, 9:27pm. This bird was calling at sunset. It took me the longest time to spot him because I was looking on the ground. Used a monopod. Slight crop on right and bottom to put the bird closer to the power point.

Great find, setting and BG. It would have been great to have the sun behind you and if the branch wouldn't cover so much of the body. I might put the bird a little bit further to the left in the frame.

Lovely bird and setting that creates a peacefull mood. The clean bg compliments the quail nicely. It would have been even better if you could have captured him calling. I like this as is, but a more direct light angle would have made it even better.

I don't mind the branch in front of the bird here - makes the subject look more "within" the shrub. Seems like it could go another round of USM for web presentation, especially in the face area.

Stan I like this "habitat" image although I do agree that some additional light and catching the bird calling would have added something extra to it.

Beautiful image with excellent detail and a killer BG. I think as Axel mentioned to move it a little to the left was a good suggestion . Even though the light was not in an ideal spot I fing this just a stunning capture as is. Thanks for sharing Stan !

Pretty darned nice. With the light (and beautiful breast feathers drawing the viewer's attention, brightening the face (and sharpening it selectively) would be an improvement.
