If you are ever on Vashon Island near Seattle, you can find the bicycle in a tree. Berkeley Breathed of Bloom County cartoon fame wrote a 1994 book, Red Ranger Came Calling about the bike. He grew up there, almost across the street from the path to the bike. Anyway, we bought our grandson the book and took him to see it. He's the one in the photo here. Processed with PS cutout and poster filters. A bit of color adaptation.

Interesting story. Perfect set up to tell the story of the book, the bicycle in the tree, and your grandson. Nice composition. The processing works well.

I was immediately struck with the way in which you put this together, including getting the book for your grandson. Also, immediately, I did a search for the book and its illustrations. My guess is that your grandson is holding it open to a view of the bicycle in the tree. If so, I wonder if it would be effective to back off the processing on the book enough to see that. At least some of the photos of the bike that were included in the search results showed fewer parts than your image does. Do you recall how recent your photo is?

Dennis, the book in the photo is the one we gave him but in the photo, it is not clear, hence some of my post processing. Yes, I did find some more recent photos of the bike that shows it was vandalized, some parts missing. this was made about 4 years ago.

Good find, Hazel, and I like the inclusion of the book and the posterization. It's a shame it was vandalized.

I am certain this moment created a lasting memory for you and your grandson. I like the composition and filter effects.
