I was lucky to get something out of this flight sequence as the Bufflehead was quite close..out of a series of 8 frames all but 2 had clipped wings. For once the best pose also was the sharpest (Murphy's Law usually has something to say about that!). The wing tip was very close to the edge - I had to about triple the amount of space underneath it by using canvas from the previous frame.
Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/3200s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, cropped for comp plus canvas extension as explained above, darkened pupil, NR to the BG. Audio used to get the subject closer.
