Stuart, first of all thank you for sharing this lovely capture, what I like the most is the alert pose...hmmm... this chap knows he is guilty of theft:)
I am not familiar with the species so I shall not comment on colours, although I do like the warmth here... not a crit as such but just asking whether the fur on paws, back and tail are truly this orange in real life?
The whites are a tad hot here and there but can be fixed, same goes for the branch the squirrel is perched on, a tad bright.
Lovely catchlight in the eye and nice detail in the fur, I have no problem with a square crop in general but in this case I would take off some from the RHS, what do you think ? Not a lot of space in front of the squirrel, I just feel that by doing so you would create a more balanced image.
Let us see what the others say, once again thank you for this lovely image, I enjoyed viewing :)
Thanks Gab . This is a red squirrel so yes the colour is correct . i tried lowering the bright spots like you said but i cant get much more room in front of him cause there is an ugly green post there lol. i rotated it a little to try get more room in front and took a little off the right side. what do you think ?
Hi Stuart - Welcome to the Wildlife Forum! Nice first image. I agree with Gabriela that there are a couple of white areas on the squirrel in which you can probably bring out a little more detail and tame from the OP. It seems that you may have applied your changes globally to the image. I feel that the rp lost a little of the vibrance/life of the op. If it were mine I would try to bring out a bit more detail in those white spots and burn the brighter areas of the branch selectively. The slight change in the crop in the rp is an improvement.
It would be great if you would share your thoughts about other images. We recommend commenting on at least 3-5 other wildlife images each time you post one of your own. It fosters a sense of community and allows us all to learn from each other.
Looking forward to seeing more of your wildlife images.
