This stunning South African endemic lives 2876 metres above sea level and must be one of the toughest birds I know of. The Drakensberg Rockjumper lives in the rocky outcrops that surround the top of the Sani Pass, and unlike other birds, it is happy to see out the treacherous winter (and summer) storms which tear through this treacherous environment. If you could see what these storms do to the massive boulders on the pass, you would most likely share my admiration and respect. Any visitors coming to South Africa should definitely add the Sani Pass and its rockjumpers and siskins to their bucket list. Not only for the birds but also for the incredible scenery (and a beer at the highest pub in southern Africa)
