I like it a lot. I agree with Robert that the synchrony in stride adds to it and it gives a real sense of place.
I don't know the etiquette on tweaking other people's images but I have 'cropped' by holding a piece of card against the screen just above that central tree and a very different image emerges - it seems more of an 'endless trek' whereas the OP is one of environment.
Hi Andre - I agree with Dale and Mike. This works extremely well. The synchronized step adds to it. Good placement of the wildebeests in the frame. They look very skinny which adds to the feeling of a long journey. Nice one.
Hi Andre, the three WB certain convey a very weary, tired, thirsty, plodding walk in the arid, dry heat of the day. Nice side profile and I like the space you have allowed at either end. If the IQ allowed, I might even try a crop tighter i.e. 16x9 where you have no sky, just the barren environment????
