I like the perch and light. The bird looks a bit oversharpened (heavy crop?) and has a halo. A bit more head turn toward you would have made it even better as well as a bit less contrast for more details in the blacks. In the upper right is some sensor dust.
I agree with the given suggestions for improvement above. I do love the texture and "knarleyness" of the perch, and how it fits well with the "tuff guy" look of the bird! The duo-tone background is clutter-free.

Thank you for all the crits & nits, I appreciate them. Next breeding season I will try and do a better job, they are quite gregarious little characters, and usually end up with at least 4 or 5 wives. L
