Love the angle of this image, it's what you expect working with a mountain species. Funny I was just reading an article about the park in National Geographic magazine. I like the composition, just seems a bit dark overall to me easily corrected! Well done!

    Dear Gianluca,

I too think you've got the "eye" for composition and for capturing something special, for this reason I suggest you invest in some software and start processing your images

Just a brief edit to make my point, here's an alternative to this image... I only lightened up the subject and sharpened a bit before posting.

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

    Thanks for your reply.

Other specifications and specifications on the shoot:
    A) unfortunately the raw Panasonic are little workable :(
    B) The weather was gloomy, it was raining, cloudy .... certainly did not help the quality!
    C) use GIMP for the calculations but actually I have to improve in recent months ... I'm trying (shooting is the Summer 2014)

The development proposal improves the image but it burns almost whites .... I tried to improve it again

    Thank you Gianluca,

I only did a rough adjustment to demonstrate my point. I am delighted to learn you are not stranger to Photoshop - and may I suggest you watch out for the halos around the subject, should you decide to change colour of the BG. Best if you do an RP from your original image and not an RP to my RP

    Kind regards,

Should one afford an SLR and BPN membership, one might wish to spend a few dollars a month for software to process one's images-various options are available.

I cannot comment on GIMP for I have never used it - if you say it has "power", then I surely hope in the future you use it to its full potential.

On this website we share our images to be critiqued by others and improve our skills - in my opinion, a "quick test" will not benefit you as much as revisiting the original image and trying out various suggestions from other members.

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Gianluca- Unfortunately it looks like the image is underexposed and your rp is a bit of an improvement. You might want to spend some time posting in our Eager to Learn Forum until you get comfortable with the critique process, learn to spot the issues with your own images and get some tips on post processing. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with GIMP either. You can post any type of image in the Eager to Learn Forum - Wildlife, Avian, Landscape, etc.

    TFS,
    Rachel

    Hi Rachel.
Are you telling me that my images are not too "nice" to be published in the forum "major"?

Hi again Gianluca - Many of us, myself included, started out in the ETL Forum to get comfortable with the critique process and learn what to look for in our own images and how to improve them. Someone there may use GIMP and be able to give you step by step instructions.

Hi Rachel. Are you telling me that my images are not too "nice" to be published in the forum "major"?
Hi Gianluca, there might be a slight misunderstanding and this could be down to translation here I think?

What I think Rachel was suggesting/proposing and I would agree here too, is that you might find both you and your images growing quicker within this part of the Forum. You may also find that people who post in ETL and are participating, ask/have similar questions, thoughts and the feedback more in-line with your development and where you will grow/build at a steady pace. Your images show good potential and so ETL is perhaps the more 'ideal' spot to expand on your photography and where Diane Miller (the Moderator there) can really focus on helping you with step-by-step advice, critiques, threads and guidance, with a more tailored feedback, just ask. By all means post here in Wildlife, but as I doubt anyone here uses the software you have, and therefore in part, our suggestions in relation to PP (Post production) stages may be extremely limited too and be more focused solely on the technical aspects of shooting, providing a less 'rounded' critique.

I hope this helps & clarifies any concerns you may have.

    All the best.

    Ciao
    Steve

I repeat: I am sorry I do not know English well ... well maybe actively participating in the forum will also improve that!

Let's see if I understand this right (correct me if I'm wrong)
This forum> photos already processed the best (or most) on which to discuss laying, currently shooting, etc.

Forum ETL> photo is beautiful but to improve and discuss how to improve (AF, framing, photo retouching, etc.)

    And 'correct?

Hi Gianluca, i guess they are being a bit diplomatic

Eager to learn is for photographers who are still learning photography skills and processing skills. The critiques/comments on these images will be to help you learn many aspects of photography and how to produce the best images you can

The other critique forums are frequented by very highly skilled photographers (many award winning) and the critiques done are more fine tuning and already good image and not to tell you that the basics are wrong.

Everyone here is happy to help you improve, but seeing your last few photos, you will improve a lot faster if you use the Eager to Learn forum. The moderators will tell you when an image of yours is good enough to be in the main critique forums.

Si vuole te lo spiegho in italiano per messagio privato ;)

    Saluti amico!

Hello all, Gianluca can only improve via ETL if our Pro's take some of their precious time to comment and help....as it stands, ETL comments (other than Diane, who is AWESOME) are primarily from other ETL folks. No more be said. Shane, No mod will (nor should) "tell you" when an image is "good enough"... quite subjective, so, exactly what is "good enough"? Gianluca: You have a good artistic "eye".... thank you for posting.

    HI Sandy,

By that comment I meant that I have seen a couple of images which were very very good on the ETL forum and the thread starter was told that they could maybe post the image in the main forums to get the pros to critique it as well

As you mention its not something they are meant to be doing but sometimes there are photos on ETL that are of good enough quality to go in the main forums

  16. Thanks Sandy Witvoet thanked for this post
