This little owl looked quite peaceful tucked inside a tree hole, resting after an active night of hunting. Thanks to a couple of local photographers for pointing it out to me!

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, FF, 4-5 snowflakes removed as they were not enough (I was really hoping for a strong snowfall, but it did not materialize).

Nice one Daniel. Very relaxing image indeed. You really did well handholding this at 1/250th. I like that you got enough light on in inner bark and the BG is not too different either

    Good details and nice composition

Really nice! Love the colors and sharpness. I think it would look even better as a vertical if the top of the cavity hole was included instead of being cut off.

Very nice Dan, Lovely details on both bird and tree. Isn't it just great when others point out something like this. Well done

    Nice one Dan.
I thought about a vertical too. Maybe worth a try but nice as is.

He he...when a cooperative subject presents itself, take a number of different images. For the vertical hopefuls: here it is

Beautiful image Daniel - I somehow prefer the vertical, it just works so much better for me. Superb capture and great processing as always, techs 100%.

Owl is so cute, kind of grumpy and non-communicative, LOL - I simply adore this, works perfectly with the subject unaware of the photographer and so content and sheltered in its nest:)

You must love this species, your images tell me so

    Warmest regards,

What a sleeping beauty. I prefer the vertical crop, my favorite owl. :)

Nice pose with the ear tuft up. Nice overall image, Daniel. I like the original one.
