Default 7D Mk 2 lost images from c/f card in camera.

Took my new 7D Mk 2 out yesterday evening for bird photography and took about 180 frames. When I returned home I was reviewing the images in camera and deleting obvious non starters when the red light at the bottom right of camera back beside the lock button lit up permanently and a message came up on the screen "Unable to access No 1 card, Replace card or format card". I was unable to do anything with the camera with this card in. I removed it and replaced with a new formatted card and everything now seems OK. The images on the card I removed from the camera have gone, not one remains. I have tried recovery with Sandisk Rescue Pro but they are not there, the camera removed the files forever. I am leaving for Portugal tomorrow so will not be able to take the camera to the store from which I purchased it. Has this happened to anyone else and if so did it reoccurre?

I don't think it's the camera. What is the brand/type of the CF card you used?

Hello Arash. The card is a Sandisk Ultra C/F. It seems strange that I was able to recover images taken with the 7d1 before I formatted the card and used it in the new camera.

It sound like an old card. For 7d2 make sure you use a UDMA7 card. That would be the extreme pro cards

It just happened again, different card and today's images lost. Both cards have been previously used in the 7D but have been formatted in the new camera before using. I hope to be photographing birds in Portugal with this camera this week so will buy a. New card when I am there and see what happens.

Put in an SD as well, and set the camera to write to both while you're sorting through the issue.

Is the other card UDMA7 ?

Cards the worked with the old 7D may not work properly with the 7D2, this is because the 7D2 uses UDMA7 interface for communicating with the card. The camera generates a massive data at 10fps and when the card cannot keep up it may pop an error message. Try a UDMA7 card by SanDisk or Lexar first, if the issues persists then the camera needs to go back to Canon or the store for rapier/replacement.

here are some UDMA 7 cards suitable for the 7D2 (32GB)

As for the SD card, the SD slot in Canon cameras is very slow, it doesn't support the high speed protocol so it will reduce the number of shots you can get in a burst. I would use it only for emergency

I used a Samsung PRO 64GB with the 7D2 and the buffer didn't fill on a a long burst. Let`s see how it goes on the long term.
    So far I'm impressed.
