Action shots are usually so good, but the "absence" of the head is a real problem for me. the beak does help. Color contrasts of the blues vs brown is good. Keep working on it! Having the bird not in the center or toward the left edge too far allows for assumed forward motion, and that's a good comp.

Nice that you were able to focus on the egret through the grass, and an interesting pose, but the OOF grass in front of the bird is an issue. I'd work on correcting the blues in the shadows, too. Vibrance will really bring out blues.
Egrets are great subjects -- hope you'll keep posting some!

Thanks for the comments. The OOF grass in front is a bit annoying, i agree. Some can be fixed. As for the blues on feathers, I try with more greyish tones and it works, but in this perticular image the greys make the bird look a bit boring.

Just a bit more "head" would have really made this image awesome (aka, what Helen said!) Wonderful environment (although OOF grasses are a bit of a problem). As to the blues... have you tried just adjusting only the blue "channel"? Love your description of the Egreat playing "batman"! Great caption! TFS!

As a woman, I have no issues with trying to improve on nature! If you like the blue, go with it!! I only mentioned it because sometimes people don't notice things like that, or know how to fix them.
