Ah, my old "toy lens." Why ISO 800? ISO 400 would have served you well. Sharp with a nice head angle. The image as presented looks dark so you might try pulling the curve up a bit. Lastly a crop from the bottom from just below your signature would work nicely here. Do you have any more room in front of the bird? a

absolutely right about the iso but i was actually trying to shoot golden eye ducks in flight (got no keepers from over 300 shots) when i saw this guy by the shore. i was shooting in AV mode and never thought to change the iso until afterwards.
now that i am back home on my good monitor , i can see what you mean about it being dark. i will have a go at it tomorrow . thanks for taking the time to look at my pics Artie ! very much appreciated . :)
