Had to join the Doc in posting a monochrome elephant from the Mara!
Needless to say, given the EXIF below, this dude was RIGHT next to our vehicle, and quite relaxed. Wide angle + polariser = magic!

    Techs:
    Nikon D800
    Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 @ 24mm
    f4.0 | 1/400 SS | ISO-100

PS: I see the slight halo now, it's an old edit and I've not the inclination to redo it now

Love the framing & comp here Morkel, but the mono just isn't working personally for me, you have that wonderful polarised sky and it's just not popping in this conversion,
I really need to see this in it's full colour splendour,.......sorry buddy.

    TFS

Morkel - Have we seen this one before? Great dramatic sky. The placement of the ele in the frame works well. The b&w creates a moody image. I too would like to see the color version. In a perfect world, I wish the distant ridge did not intersect the ear/head the way it does.

    TFS,
    Rachel

No worries Marc, I actually prefer this one but will post the colour version tonight (not at my library now)...

Thanks Rachel - well I wondered if I had posted it here on BPN before but could not find the colour or B&W version when doing a search through my "started threads". You may have seen it in my blog post about wide angle wildlife photos?

Beautiful Landscape and dramatic sky Morkel. I like the placement of the Ele and the angle. Well executed and I like the B&W conversion.

    Dear Morkel,

I like this as is and honestly I did not see the halo until you mentioned it:) Very dramatic and it feels as if the ellie is coming at you...
Not a crit as such, but just wondering whether this is a bit dark overall - I might be wrong so would love to hear what you as well as the members have to say. Love the presentation and especially placement of the subject in the frame, that sky is superb, boetie

    Have a super evening,

Morkel - I think I prefer the color. It is just such a classic scene.

    Very nice Meneer Erasmus ........
I like this elescape a lot Morkel ,i prefer the B/W compared to the color version because the color version needs more light to work from my POV .
Lovely conversion with a lot of different shades of grey and just the right amount of punch in the blacks and the HL.
Great comp and placement of the ele in the frame.

    Lovely work , TFS Andreas

    Nice!

In the context of the choice of white black is a good choice.

    Hi Morkel
lovely image, would suggest brightening foreground a tad ..just a tad to dark..just to add contrast to the dark skies
