Default Canon 5D Mark III is slow in RAW.

I have been shooting using RAW + jpeg for quite some time.
I was able to take only six shots in a burst before it slowed down.
Even with the fastest cards it remained the same.
Due to some discussion initiated by me on NSN, I switched to RAW only.
The difference is amazing: I went from six to eighteen frames continuously.
Still six frames per second of course, but I can now take eighteen frames instead of six or seven.
I was also advised to remove the SDHC card and use UDMA card only.
I'm passing it along in case you need it at all.

The SD card slot is limited to 20 MB/Sec compared to 150 MB/Sec for the CF slot.
However, you only suffer a performance penalty if and when you are actually writing to the SD card.
The mere presence of and SD card does not affect the performance of the CF card.
However, if you configure the camera to write to both cards simultaneously, overall performance will drop to the slower of the two, i.e. the 20 MB/Sec of the SD slot.
I would recommend leaving the SD card in the camera as an emergency backup but try your best to never have to use it in an action situation.
