    Default My First Boreal Chickadee!

Last week I went to Algonquin Park specifically to photograph some Pine Martens, but the Boreal Chickadee was also a target species as some have been hanging out near a suet feeder all winter. I only got to see one (twice) for fleeting glimpses, but luckily for me on the first showing it chose an OK perch for long enough to take a few frames (not the one I was hoping for, but still good enough). Not a bad souvenir for my first ever sighting of the species

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/125s., f/4, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, about 75% FF, usual eye work, smoothed out an oof branch in lower left corner.

Nice one Dan . Pity about the tail but the rest of the bird makes up for it !!
Great BG too !- just that hint of tonal/colour difference.

Congrats Daniel, I went out looking for them this weekend too but didn't see one. Lots of detail and nice BG.

Sweet image, just love the colors of the bird and the bg. I'm sure that this was a thrill for you, and thanks for sharing it.

Sweet, with your usual perfect specs!

What would you think about removing the small branch that acts as a visual extension of the tail?

I think I know where you took this - not much light in there so a great job getting this capture.

Hi Dan, excellent angled pose, and love the soft light in this. Well done on the overall exposure, good plumage detail showing up, and your BG finishes off the image nicely.

Very nice Dan. I love how the image has a softness feeling about it, even though it is perfectly sharp. Great BG which shows the bird well. Beautiful head details, Great work
