One of hundreds of images I've captured of Great Blue Herons. It happened to be a partly cloudy day and as often occurs the sun would break through periodically. Couldn't wait
while I had this look back. C&C welcome

Fantastic looking image Geoffrey. The details on the bird are superb. Lovely BG aswell. I wouldn't change anything. I love the twist on the neck. Good work.

That look-back pose is really fabulous - the shape of the neck and the way the plumage falls. Lots of detail - very nice.

Not sure that I wouldn't have cleaned away the two leaves - one behind the bill and the other above it.

    Delightful shot!

Yes, a very nice pose with great curves. I like the green background combined with those leaves. The one intersecting the bill tip is too bad IMO...would you have been able to move to your right more to get separation there? I'd also remove the black spot in the iris as these herons normally do not have that...unless you want to keep it to show that this one did have that. Well done overall!

As Daniel mentioned, the green gives this image a nice touch. I agree that moving to the right a bit and waiting for more of a tilt of the head (to compensate for your move) would have been ideal.

I think the soft light here is a plus, so I'm glad you pulled the trigger!.

Terrific portrait of this fellow. The twist of the neck really makes it. The green leaves are also a plus -- I could imagine a version without the leaf intersecting the bill, but not a deal-breaker. The soft light really helped. Well done.
