I spent a great day Thursday in Algonquin Park specifically to photograph this species. They did not disappoint, with three seen at the same location - at times all at the same time. Well worth the six hour drive (3 hours each way). So photogenic, and they put on quite a show! Here is my first processed image from the day trip...a classic Pine Marten in a Pine pose.

Canon 7D + 100-400L @260mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/200s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, FF, three very thin bright oof branches removed, and a couple of bright spots in the BG eliminated, NR to the BG.

Beautifully composed image, I like the inquisitive pose, the dark BG makes the face pop nicely. Excellent techs too.

Hi Daniel - I love this. It really pops against that bg and the inquisitive pose is great. The hanging tail just takes it over the top. Well done!

Good looking animal and a nicely composed image. A good representation of the deep, dark northern woods.

    A Pine Marten?

This is the first time I hear about this species and would love to know more about them. Yes, I shall ask Mr Google, but at the same time I just hope you have more images to share:)

Lovely image with beautiful colours, superb eye contact, perfect composition Daniel! Love the BG and the subject so pretty on his "perch"...amazingly sharp for 1/200s, you must have such a steady hand

Always a pleasure to view your images -thank you!!!

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Great composition with view of the tail. The light colored face pops out very nicely against the dark BG

Nice IQ and good eye contact.

Hi Daniel, these are/can be very elusive over here, would love to photograph these subjects, very partial to strawberry jam sandwiches I gather, LOL.

Very well framed, great composition utilising the vertical of the main tree and the branch supporting the subject, as he/she precariously balances. Nice eye contact with the viewer and that 'curious' look, just leaves you wanting more!!!!

Love the framing and cute pose here Daniel, the veg is a little distracting, but understand it would have been too tight if cropped out.

The dark BG really works here as well for mine.
