Great capture of this superb male, Morkel -those visible wounds the mark of a great warrior and king of his castle...

Why was your ISO so low, Boetie?

Nicely processed, I like this early morning light, the "wild eye" - impressive fellow...man, I would have loved to see this with my own eyes!!!

Very jealous of your sightings but so love to view your images, keep them coming...have a super week-end

    Warmest regards,

Well.....accidentally had the EV dialed to -0.7 so underexposed this a bit (and with auto ISO, meant the ISO went nice and low).
Was able to recover everything without introducing noise, so this may be a strategy for me in low light in future haha

The dilemma with Auto ISO, have been caught out myself as well Morkel, still a nice recovery job in lovely light.

Was thinking you'd posted this before but realised I have seen it somewhere else.

Lovely first light. I know I have seen a image of this guy from you before...Not this one though. Great shooting angle and nice walking pose.
Man there are no Lions like this in Kruger!

Amazing light and great looking male lion. I like the composition and the walking angle/pose. Excellent detail and sharpness. He has so much character! TFS.

Hi Morkel - Sweet light! This works very well with the nice walking pose and strong comp. We've all accidently underexposed something in the excitement of the minute. You did a good job bringing this back. Curious why only 1000 px across rather than the BPN limit of 1200px?

    TFS,
    Rachel

Aww, I did this too:) Now I check my settings before, and after a "session".

Interesting about AUTO ISO, and we had some serious discussions on this topic, me and Andre. For various reasons I use it on special occasions only. I generally like to be "on my toes" and check / adjust settings (and also histogram) constantly. I wish I had AUTO ISO when shooting the jackals attacking the bokkie mom and lamb - I ended up shooting without support, equipment in hand, light fading and things happened fast, I ended up with some not-so-sharp images towards the end, what a shame and I am still upset about this.

Morkel, your PP work is excellent and you can fix just about anything:) Well done on this one, a very special capture!

    Wishing you a happy week-end

    Thanks everyone.

Rachel, just too lazy now to work this sizing into my workflow. I use 1000px as my low res size for my own website galleries as well. I have probably only processed 5-8 new photos this year due to hectic schedule anyway...

Hi Morkel, great light and angle of the subject, 'battle scared' indeed, but illustrates a tough life in the bush. Think it could do with a hint more sharpening for web?
