After a four month hiatus, with the frigid temps... took my gear for a ride the other day.... the only open water was a river-fed lake... to my disappointment, all the birds were about a half mile out in the lake. As I was sitting on shore (telling the camera that, well, sometimes it's ok to just go for a ride...NOT!), a couple of Goldeneyes showed up in an unfrozen bayou. Lovey-dovey at first... until "Dad" tried a sneak-attack... didn't work out so well for him!.... at least I got a few images!
Pano seems to work best for this? Canon 60D, 400mm F4 DO, f/5, 1/2000, ISO400.

That's great! Love it that all you can see is his eye and the expression says, "What the?????" Nice and sharp.

I agree, this is pretty awesome. What's nice is you have another option of
cropping out the trailing duck, focusing on the splash off and have two
    great images.

Thanks very much for your comments! Was nice to pretty much have them in the same focal plane. The male's eye was quite vivid, even in the other images I took of him.
