That darker spot in the middle of the rainbow is the shadow of the plane. The window distortion is unfortunately unavoidable in the lower half of the image, but I did get a shot of the only time I've seen a triple rainbow from above (this would be sundogs on the ground).

Rainbows are pretty cool things. This is the only position from which you can see a rainbow in the middle of the day (one can only see a rainbow from the ground from 3-4 hours before sunset and after sunrise) and also an arc of greater than 180 degrees (perhaps from a very tall tower?). There were brief moments of a complete circle.

Thanks for looking. No need for IQ comments ;-)

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

That's very cool Michael! It certainly fits the theme and inevitable IQ challenges are forgiven. It looks like a special effect for a sci-fi movie!

Wonderful catch! This is the brightest one I've ever seen, processing notwithstanding, and I've never seen a triple one. If the sun is in the right place I sometimes see the effect as we're flying close to a low cloud or fog bank. Usually hard to persuade the camera to focus on it.

    Interesting snow pattern.

Very cool Michael, I've never seen a double let alone triple. You must have been quick to catch this.
