Have been working on BIF and I am liking the new 7D new 100-400 combo. Critiques welcome.

Nice looking image Alison. Lovely detail and colours on the bird which compliment the BG. I like the light on the head. Good capture and thanks for sharing

I love the lit up speculum, the pose and the slight head turn for the great eye contact. Nice muted BG too. Well done Alison.

Wow. Detail on that near upperwing is beyond spectacular. The near wing looks a bit sharper than the head; the image would likely benefit from a bit of selective sharpening of the head. LMK if you need help with that. a

The 7D II and the 100-400 II are indeed a killer combo, and you did very well here. Nice wing position and eye contact. Love the blue of the wing. When I'm shooting action I never drop below ISO 400; I think that could have helped you here by allowing you go with a faster shutter speed and more DOF. Also I would try boosting your exposure a bit.
