Hi all ,
this Lioness was a bit annoyed by the numerous ticks and flies on her body , during her cleaning session with scratching and licking she finally got up and shook her head , for my the time to fire a couple of frames .
Image taken during early afternoon at Melkvlei WH in KTP when Andre and Gabriela has already left home .

Thanks for looking and commenting to my previous thread
Hi Andreas - That's a funny expression on the lioness's face. Nice detail and sharpness. Vertical was the way to go here. If it were mine I might darken the bg slightly and I also think you could crop a little more from the bottom to get rid of the plant if you were so inclined.
The heat can make one more irritated with the little critters in your environment..
Love the full belly and that "not there" look in the eyes.
Very effective DOF and crop. Agree maybe bit tighter at bottom.
Dust and hairs flying around head makes this image special.
Nice one Andreas, taken as I was dodging road hazards going home.
Flies are so annoying in the Kalahari: they stick to you and seek any drop of moisture they can find. If you get agitated and try to shoo them away you will sweat, so more flies arrive. The subject here is most likely pestered by tampans - nasty blood sucking insects resembling flies...They crawl inside the ears and cause havoc. I am sorry for this lioness, she seems irritated and the head shake is an attempt to shake off those awful pests that never really go away...
Andreas, the light wasn't on your side here but you did extremely well, good exposure and sharpness and you captured the movement and that lovely blur from the ears - I love the pose as much as I detest the flies:)
You brought out nice detail in the fur, also in the eyes and nose of the lioness. The tuft of grass does not bother me.
Well done Mr B.E, I cannot say I enjoyed the content of the image because I feel like to go and chase those tampans away, but I did enjoy your framing/composition and the way you processed this image, everything in good measure and yes the pose from your lioness is something so different from what we see every day...thank you so much for sharing
Hi Andreas , i like the vertical crop and agree with Rachel on the crop to remove the plant at the bottom of the frame , the pupil of the dominant eye looks menacing .
Cool image here, I like that you can see the sand flying from her as she shakes (perhaps that can be accentuated in a delicate B&W conversion paying attention to tonal separation??)
Man I miss that place when I see your images...
