    6.40am
This 4 month old lion cub stares down my lens as he takes up his position on a termite mound at the start of a new day.
    Kusini plains/Serengeti- Northern Tanzania.

D4s 500 f/4 VR 1/400s f/4 ISO6400. 25% crop for composition, bean bag from front pax seat, curves, levels, mid tone adj in TK, ACR, PS CC'14. Pushed the vib/sat for the blue in the sky to enhance this a little further with a slight % of NR on the BG.

    C & C most welcome

    Cheers
    Marc

Nicely processed for my taste. I like the look toward the viewer, the contours of the termite mound, and the color of the grass and sky BG.

Hi Marc - very nice inquisitive pose with strong eye contact. Comp works with lion slightly off-center. Good detail and sharpness. If it were mine I would reduce the yellow on the termite mound. It just makes the lion pop a little more.

    TFS,
    Rachel

    TFS,

That's a particular aspect I like, it's the soft early glow of sunrise, and stays for mine. All subjective of course.

I'd be interested to know what other's think on the colour?

Hi Marc love the " right in the face " look of the cub , very intense looking , even if small in the frame . Good detail and realistic colors (even if subjective) for my liking. Light looks great on this one and the POV too.
    Well done .

But i can see another version ........ wonder what you and others think .
Colors /contrast pushed a bit in LAB color space at low percentage .

    Cheers Andreas

    Mark,

Hope you don't mind but this fine image was screaming portrait orientation to me.. Here's a vertical crop I visualized. A fine image any way you look at it!

Aww Marc, I like this a lot!

First of all, great IQ at ISO 6400 - I know the camera can take a lot more, but just happy to see the results here:)

Like the placement of the "young and naughty one" in the frame, Dale's version also works well for me. Great POV and that eye contact really adds to this image, well exposed and colours look natural IMO, really curious to know what this cub was up to and whether he investigated this termite mound further...

This image makes me wonder what happened next...have you more on this sighting?

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Amazing pose and I love the 2 tone BG. I think Andreas has nailed the colours in my opinion. His pops for me.

    Hi Marc
Wonderful opportunity and very effective POV.
Love the eye contact, and the "what's next" look.
Prefer the horizontal crop for inclusion of more "habitat"
Colour for me is somewhere between OP and Andreas's RP.
    Love it!
    Regards

    Andre.

Hi Marc , This is a super image , the IQ is top notch i liked Andreas RP and since u have cropped then u might also be having some space on the left side of the viewer , if yes then u can use it to make the dominant eye a bit to the center of the frame .

Love the pose and stare here mate.
I quite like the punch in Andreas' version - Dale's vertical is also an option but I am fine with your OP crop choice.
