Hello Morkel, Such a pretty sight, like the blues of water and the soft colors on the cubs, u have handled the lighting very nicely . If i were to critique then certainly a bit more dodging on the little ones right eye might look more pleasing.

Hi Morkel - Very cute cubs and I like the sort of follow the leader poses. If this were mine I would tame the highlights a bit more. Is this a large crop? It doesn't seem to have the IQ of most of your images.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Cute moment. like the low POV and lighting here Morkel.

I gather AF was directed solely on the first cub?

Too cute. Can't tell if the larger cub is following to keep an eye on the smaller one or to pounce on it in sneak attack.

Hi Morkel a very cute scene with the two youngsters , like the pano crop and the overall color contrast with the blue /red as the dominant elements . Would have been great if the first cub would have received more light , but no deal breaker .

    Morkel, you lucky lucky man!!!

    Where was this taken?

You must have been so close...I think you did great under the circumstances and handled the lighting conditions very well.

Do you think - in hindsight - that you could have had even better DOF, had you gone for ISO 400 and shot at F10, to have the second cub a tad sharper? I know these things happen fast and the cubs were obviously moving, one moment they are together and the next they are not, they are walking from light to shade and you constantly have to check settings, so all is relative and conditions changing fast - certainly not a crit, just a question, since I have a similar image and this issue came up, been agonising over my decisions and feel I was not fast enough to change settings, the best image seems to me 100% but the content not as exciting as the one where DOF is just a tad too short.

I recognise with a great degree of pleasure this lovely pink Kalahari morning light, glad to see so much water at this waterhole (been told some waterholes have dried up since we were there last, so I am rather worried), and I love the image content although I secretly wish for a tad more on the LHS and less on the RHS. Very cute cubs, especially the little one with a tiny catchlight in the eye, some nice eye contact Morkel, and like I said, colours look very natural to me.

Not going to KTP till next year so I would appreciate any images you have - missing the place already and all the creatures in it...

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

    Thanks a bunch, folks.
I did indeed put my AF on the small front cub here, wasn't really going to go deeper than f8 as there would always have been some cubs too OOF given they were moving around a lot.
Gabriela - this was at 13th Borehole, we stayed at Urikaruus.

Some great light here Morkel and outstanding subject material.. Nice choice of a crop here. Works well. One small thing I would have like for the BG cubs upper left to be entirely in the frame, You may very well have it! It's been quite a few years since I've been to the Kalahari. Love to get back and capture some fine images like this!
