Nothing beats managing to photograph a first sighting of a species. Allen's Hummingbird, Bolsa Chica Reserve, CA.
D7100 and Nikkor 300mm f4 with 1.4xTC, tripod mounted, heavy wind.
1/640 SS, ISO 500, 420mm, f/5.6
Standard PP work, small branch protruding 1/10th into the frame on the bottom and right side of perch cloned out. Maybe I'll clone out the little bit on the left side as well.
Congrats on the lifer. You've captured him in nice light bringing out his gorgeous colors, with a fine BG. With the D7100 I think you could have increased the ISO to get another stop or two and better DOF.
Lovely details on this magnificent colorful bird! Just wished for a bit more DOF to get the branch a bit more in focus. But other than that I love this splash of colors!
PS. Love that setup and still owns it as my backup. D7100+300mm f4 and 1.4TC.
