    Default Black-throated Sparrow

    Another one for World Sparrow Day. This Black-throated Sparrow was found in the Tucson area of Arizona in May, 2014. Pentax K-3 with DA*300mm + 1.4 HDTC. 1/1000sec at f/7.1. ISO 125.

    I like the BG and the nice details on the bird. I would take off a bit from top and bottom and move the bird a bit to the left. I find the crop too square and the bird too much in the middle. I would also add a bit of catch light to the dark eye.

    I saw my first and only one of these guys last month in the Sonoita Grasslands south of Tucson. But I only managed a lousy ID shot from the van I was traveling in. This has very nice detail, pose, perch and BG. I agree with Raybel's critique on the comp. Alternatively you might try cropping about halfway in from the left and making it a vertical. Good frame with several options to work with.

    Hey Anthony, The bird is nicely sized in the frame, and has a very attractive background. I like the head angle. I agree with Raybel's suggestion on crop, and think it needs a little more light in the eye.

    Seen only once in Arizona but no image. Beautiful image of this rare sparrow.

    Thanks for the comments. I have re-cropped the image, but I am not sure about the eye. Does this work? I would welcome pointers to adding eye-lights were they are not present in the original image.
