As a fan of portraits it's about time I participate in this month's theme eh! This is a rather tame lady Wood Duck that has been hanging out in a small patch of open water with some Mallards and a few American Black Ducks. I took a chance that she would take food and ended up inside my 100-400's 6 foot MFD.

Canon 7D + 100-400L @300mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/400s., f/8, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, full frame, eye work, a large oof falling snow flake removed below the nape.

I'm very jealous Daniel, great portrait with awesome detail. I've never had the good fortune to get close enough to Woodies to get a good shot.

Exemplary portraiture, technically spot on. I like the little details - snow flakes and water droplets and the featureless oof snow background is very acceptable in this type of image. No down-side for me. Regards, Ian

A lovely portrait of a lovely species. That bill is something else!

Love the fine details. Is that ice at the end of the beak? Great exposure and composition

I thought the 7D couldn't be used above ISO 400

Beautiful details and sharpness! The water drops adds a lot aswell.
