    Default Snow Monkeys

The spectacle of the Snow Monkeys in Japan is an amazing experience. It is fascinating to watch the many interactions of this troop as they stay warm in the hot springs, cuddle, or wander about. They totally ignore the multitudes of tourists putting cell phones in their faces or various cameras being pointed in their direction. At times the people crowd thins out and that is when I most enjoyed just watching the individuals interact.

    Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS @ 200mm, 1/800, f8, exp. comp. +2/3, ISO 1600

    c & c most appreciated.

Technical-spot on. I like the close up and inter action. They look cuddly and warm!

Very nicely done. Love the interaction and the intimate shot. Details are superb

They look very similar to our own Barbary macaques just a lot furrier :)

Hi Nancy, seems you've been brushing up & building on your PP skills too whilst away, very nicely processed and techs look good too, look forward to more.

A location certainly where small lens are required and that the subjects seem to be very tolerant of the abuse they receive from iPhones & 'point & shoot' cameras as you say.

Thanks all! I was very glad not to carry a large, heavy lens as the 30-minute walk was seriously covered with ice and very slow going.

Hi Nancy welcome back , hope you had fun over there , even if jam packed with humans i guess.
Nice tight portrait with good colors and very pleasing tonal range .You extracted some good details and i like the expression on the face.
I am only wondering about the missing sharp details on the left monkey on his cheek hairs ? Was F8 not enough to get them all sharp ? I would have preferred that area in focus , but this a very minor thing and very easy to say sitting here .
I would like to agree with Steve regarding your PP , this looks very nicely processed .

A wonderful moment well captured and processed Nancy,

I also would have thought that f/8 would have sufficient DOF?

Like the Mara, (and many others) this is an area we are loving to death and perhaps crowd numbers/behaviour here may have to be assessed in future, sad ......but true.

Nice fine detail. Colours look great and the detail in the eye really works well. Nice one Nancy!

    Hello Nancy, and welcome back

Fantastic pose and colours and I like your choice of crop here - allows us viewers to see the beauty of this species and enjoy the intimacy of the scene.

Very special capture, well processed, I look forward to some more if you have

    Kind regards,

Thank you all very much! I too, was wondering about the f8 and not having the cheek fur in focus.

The framing, moment and processing here are top notch Nancy!
I've heard it can get quite crowded around the springs - a throng of people pushing into a moment I am enjoying watching nature would just peeve me off I think...?
