    I really like this photo. Starting with the red eye that grabs and hold my attention. Predominantly dark colors of the coot are set off by the softer and lighter background colors. Love the little bow wave that seems to be holding up the head. Great detail in the body and I think with a little work you could bring out some of that same detail under the eye. As your title says, this guy is on a mission.

    Great image, William. Exposure is perfect on the blacks showing nice details. I also like the eye contact and the water color.

    I don't know this pose. Is it about to dive or is this mating posture?

    I love all the variety and detail in the blacks. The light on the eye is just right. Of course, the pose is attractive and unusual.

    Everything about these birds to me is funny from their shape to their behavior. This shows that off well, although personally I would prefer a looser crop.

    Superb control of the blacks, and good detail available on the bill as well - not an easy ask. Add an interesting pose and that's a job well done
