Continuing my journey through some old archives keeps turning up a few that I overlooked including this one from 2008. My friend and I stayed all day on the beach in this blizzard and had a blast. There were two owls who were keeping an eye on each other, giving us a few nice flight poses as they chased each other around. I didn't do much to this one in terms of processing: cropped a little , saturated the eye a touch, added a bit of contrast to the bird and detail extracted just a fraction on the snow. Thank you.

Pretty neat take-off pose, and I like the falling snow. Composed tastefully. Well exposed for the whites, and although I have a feeling you wanted to keep a foggy mood I do think darkening the blacks would help the image IMO.

Great shot Grace. I like the falling snow and the blue/ gray BG.
I think I would add a touch more contrast if mine.
Well done in finding this oldie but goodie,
    Gail

Hi Grace - There's a simplicity and winter feeling to this that just works. Nice wing position and the falling snow really adds to the image.

Love the wintry atmosphere with the falling snow - great how snow simplifies the landscape - and the posture of the owl with those wings fully up - and the disturbed snow at his feet.
    A real delight!

Definitely a snowy owl in it's environment. Love the cold blizzardy look to this one and I like the wings up takeoff pose. Nice one Grace

Thanks to everyone who looked and mostly to those who took the time to comment. Gail and Daniel, I understand your suggestions, but I'm sticking to my presentation here. This was a very low contrast scene and the image is as much about the snow storm as the bird. Pushing the blacks and/or contrast farther than I did began to make the owl stand out too much and the scene just didn't warrant that. In reality, I could barely see him through all the wind and snow.
