Hi all .. spent a few hours at Algonquin Provincial Park. Grey Jays can be quite bold in the wintertime as visitors will often bring food for the Jays, and the other overwintering species found in this area.

    Bill:

I like the cool color palette, well exposed, nice pose.

Just for personal taste, I would consider cropping about 1/3 of the free space off the top.

The catchlight in the eye is rather distracting, and I might tone it down just a bit. Catchlight is always desirable, but simple is usually best.

Was flash used on this image?

    Cheers

Randy, Thanks for the critique ... and as I look at the image again, I think that you are absolutely correct, so I reworked the image a tad, and yes I did use fill flash. Let me know what you think.

Very nice Bill, especially your second post. The colours on the perch, bird and BG compliment each other perfectly. Nice HA on the bird and a lovely pose. Just a pity we couldnt see the rest of the bird, but overall I really like this and thanks for sharing

    Bill:

The repost works better for me! Always a risk of getting "steel eye" with fill flash. The further you can get the flash off the lens axis, the less of an issue this tends to be, although still possible.

    Cheers

    Repost looks great.
Just wish for less foliage in the FG to see more of the Gray Jay.
