I had this shot last Saturday. The Ship Canal was fully frozen or almost fully.
Went back yesterday, dreaming about shots similar to this, but found the ice gone.
All you need is a strong wind and the high waves blown from the open Lake would break up the ice.
    Thanks for looking.

This is very nice Karl, great action the trailing foot certainly adds to a fine image.

Karl, this is very nice (good pose and lovely background.) I too was going to visit the canal yesterday, but knew that I'd be too late. I should have gone while there was only that pocket of open water. Well, warmer temps are better for the ducks. In any event: a great location and a great look at one of the locals! If I had my druthers there would be a little less bird in the frame. I'm not sure if this is full-frame or if it's been cropped in?

Sharp as a tack Karl, and I really like the water/ice BG and setting here. Very cool to see the right foot dragging thru the water, but I would prefer to see both wings extended. Well done.

Great dynamic pose, I also like the interesting BG but wish you were a bit lower. I don't see much detail in the blacks and also wish the near wing position was a bit better. I like how the left foot is touching the water

I love the foot-dragging action here. Normally I prefer a lower angle but I must say that the higher vantage point works very well here...gives off a neat perspective. I really love the diagonal division created by the ice meeting the water.

Great-looking landing frame Karl and I'd like the foot and tail drag. The exposure and details look good to me and I don't mind the wing position too much. Well done
