Shooting on totally the wrong side for the light because of a road but gave it a shot anyway. Canon 7DII 500f4+1.4 extender, handheld ISO1600,f5.6@2000sec. Converted in DPP had to lighten up this side but like the way the light it coming through the wings. Thanks for looking.

Hi Joe, it's a cute owl but this one doesn't have much detail left on the owl. It would be tough to salvage a high ISO shot with the 7D2 when RAW was underexposed. maybe you could go for a silhouette with this kind of back lit

I try not to shoot the 7D over 1600 and I was already wide open and about as low on the SS as I like for handheld at that point I should have switched out bodies for my 5DIII. Live and learn:)

Cool, shot, have been looking for these guys, and go down to Bombay Hook in Delaware to look for them. Finally saw them for the first time last month, but from a fare distance. Agree with Arash about maybe going for a silhouette.

Have to agree with your self critique here.
Mind you, I would have been thrilled to see this owl in flight and would have fired lots of shots even if shooting into the light!

Arash yes manual mode. I got some others I might have a go at trying a silhouette.

Dvir I posted one from down at Bombay about a month ago here. There are a good number working the Gettysburg Battlefield right now and that is where this one was from.

Gail it can be hard not to shoot when they are flying around like bats even when you know the light is wrong :)

it looks like you could push the exposure by ~ 2 stops during exposure it would have come out as a high key but you would have gotten better details on the owl
