Taken about a month ago at Carolina Raptor Center. Loved the beautiful lighting conditions separating the bird from the background. Of course needed fill flash to keep from being a silhouette as I wanted the background to go -1-1/2 as well as not overexposing the rim light on the body. Flash was dialed -1/2 to -2/3 stop on 550ex w/ Lepp Project-a-flash Fresnel. {yeah I'm an oldtimer had that for 20+ years}
I really like what you've done with the light here, very well executed, and the result is very pleasing. Rich colours, well composed (although a bit more room above is another option here IMO). Just a bit more dof for the bill would have been super.

Super portrait of a magnificent bird! Colours are great and the background really holds it beautifully. Skilful use of the flash, too!
I was lucky enough to photograph some Golden Eagles recently, and in post-processing I have been surprised how "rufous" the colours look. But when I see the colours you have here, I think I have the same range, so feel some re-assurance. Thanks for that!
