    Default Elephant Bull

Pondered weather I should post this image for a while now. Not sure if it will be everyones taste. I like the light and tones as well as the mud and skin tones on the Bull. The BG is busy but I feel has nice tones with the green trees, blue sky and clouds. I have found it difficult in the past to get an Elephants eye visible.
It will be great to hear your thoughts.

Glad you posted, like the detail in the wrinkles and the eye peeping out of the eye lashes, like the close up pose, dont mind the BG,the head takes up the view,if you don't mind cloning, woulddo something with the light colored tree and purple bit,in front of its leg.TFS.

I love it Dumay. There can't be a clearer reflection of an ele's leathery skin texture than this. And I love the peaceful feel about it. Nice one!

It is a picture of tranquillity. The busy back ground does not bother me. Sharp, light and other tecks spot on.

    Hello Dumay!

    What lovely light!

This was my first thought as I opened the thumbnail and I am glad you posted this, I really like your ellie portrait. The colours are great and I find the BG not at all overwhelming. The composition works for me, you did some subtle PP work to bring out nice detail on this gentle giant and the visible eye a great bonus - truly enjoyed viewing, Dumay

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Dumay do not understand why you thought about posting this .
Great IQ , color and tone. BG is not busy at all to me , because you have a pleasing Bokeh . Lovely detail and the really nice thing is the visible eye , make this work very nice !! Crop works good , too.

    Nicely done , TFS Andreas

Love the colour & detail you've extracted here Dumay, agree with Andreas re. the BG as the Sigma really shines here, very pleasing overall.

Hi Dumay - Not sure why you hesitated about this one. It's lovely. The bg doesn't bother me one bit and does not seem busy. Nice detail, tones and light with good texture brought out. Great to see the color of the eye and the nice lashes. Only small point is there is a halo on the far side of the head where it meets the sky.

    Rachel

I think you could smooth out the BG a bit more, but it is nice as posted, I love the Eye.....

Thanks for all the comments folks.
Dan I have had a few comments recently from some on this forum that I do to much NR on my BG so I decided to try no NR. I like the smooth BG's, probably from my days when I did a lot of bird photography.
Rachel I see what you mean on the halo. It is very slight but is a little visible thanks for pointing it out.

    What's not to like here?
Great light, textures, colours, details. The eye does shine, since it's complemented by the overall colours so nicely.

Hi Dumay, often hard to capture a different image of an elephant, but this works extremely well, nicely formatted. Colours, detail look good and I like the balance between environment & subject.
