    Default Common Merganser

A few weeks ago this Common Merganser Hen jumped onto the edge of an almost completely frozen local lake and proceeded to do a wing flap. I never know if it's going to be a lengthy grooming session and maybe a wing flap after a spell, but she decided since it was getting low on light, I needed the wing flap without much delay. C&C welcome.

I like the pose but the bird isn't showing much detail, looks like it was too big of a crop?

I get the same feeling as arash pointed out, specially on the head, but this is a nice species and very rare here in Portugal.

I like the pose, the line of the ice and the merganser are nicely placed in the frame. Neat spots of color from the feet and head on a drab winter's day.

Thanks Arash, Luis, and John. Arash, you are correct and I had considered having the Merganser smaller in frame.
