Karl, What a great opportunity. As nice as the duck is, I think that the background with the ice sets this apart and adds so much interest to the photograph. Great pose with the tucked feet, lots of sharpness on the belly with the drops of water and I like the motion blur in the wing tips. Perfect angle of flight. Can you extract any detail from the dark brown head?

Perfect pose with this duck angled just slightly at you. Tack sharp on the body, really liking the water drops here. This is a real add to your collection. Well done Karl.

Karl flying birds come hard to me, you certainly don't have any problems if this is anything to go by, water droplets are icing on the cake, very well done.
Keith.

I tried but my options are limited, since I was shooting jpeg only to get more frames out of the camera. With RAW it slows down after 5-6 frames.

It's amazing how many great opportunities you have to photograph over there. Superb wing position, great details overall and good exposure. The BG is as said, spectacular and makes this one stand out among the rest.

Wonderful flight capture Karl, this is as good as it gets for a wings-up position. Wonderful light, as mentioned already by most the ice BG is killer good, colors and detail are both terrific. Very well done and a treat to see.

Excellent pose and wing position, pity about lack of details in the blacks shooting in JPEG was a big mistake, you cannot recover anything in the blacks.

Thanks, Arash.
I would rather call it experiment.
I haven't been shooting in jpeg since 2005 so it was time try it again.
Switched back to RAW on the same day.

Hi Karl, what a fantastic flight pose - this just pops out my screen. You nailed the sharpness, and I do like the ice in the BG. Well captured.

if you are concerned about buffer size I would recommend using an UDMA7 (150MB/sec) CF card it will solve the buffer issue on the 5D3. they aren't cheap but sure better than shooting JPEG

Thanks, Arash. Good advice. I'll buy a couple for sure.
