Default Theme: Clematis on Black BG

I seldom use a black bg for my flowers, preferring a softer look. My son suggested more contrasty backgrounds. I found this in my files. Taken indoors with natural light, 105mm macro lens, f14, ISO 125, 0.6 sec. I don't remember the processing.

Anita, a most dramatic presentation. I like the diagonal line. The horizontal presentation is also a bit different for a single flower with stem.

The black bg really makes the clematis really stand out. I really like the slight diagonal of the leaves framing the flower. Would you do this kind of presentation again? ( the black bg?)

Great idea for the theme and what a super image you got from outside of your comfort zone. I love the black background and the perfect colors and natural textures of the flower. Nice post!

Thank you, Jackie and Kerry. Yes, I think I will try black bg again, now that I've been reminded of how dramatic it is.

Perhaps a slight CW rotation to make more of a diagonal, and a slight lowering of the brightness if you were concerned about it being over dramatic or contrasty. However, I like it very much as is.

Thanks for your comments, Ron. I may have it printed as is to see how it looks.

I love the flower and the black background Anita. Now that Ron mentioned it, I think lowering the brightness a little might be a good thing.

A gorgeous and striking image! I love the way the horizontal composition accommodates the gesture of the leaves, but the crop feels a bit crowded for me. It would be easy to add black canvas to and sides.

I wonder how a little softening of contrast would work? I did a small amount of Nik's Detail Extractor and liked the result, but of course how to interpret it is personal choice.

Thanks, Diane. Someone else suggested toning it down a bit.
