    There were 2 Black-bellied Plovers hunting amid the rocks near the Jetty recently. This one didn't mind me sitting nearby. I like the way the bird is coming out of the frame and toward the viewer here, but I'm not too sure about the oof rocks in the background. I should have lowered my ISO.

    EF300mm f/4 + 1.4 ext., 1/2500, 7.1, ISO 1000, man exp., evaluative metering

    I like the positioning of the bird and it walkng out of the frame.
    Regards the rocks in the background I think if you had been even a few inches lower, the loser edge of the rock would have been more across the body rather than 'chopping the neck off' and been more acceptable. Being higher would have lost the 'contact level' with the bird.

    Thanks, Mike. Good point - I get so focused on the subject, I often don't think enough about the background.

    Very nice environment and a sharp subject in a good pose. I think the DOF is perfect. Would have been nice to get lower but in the heat of the moment I'd opt to catch what I can without spooking the subject.
