This rare species for us for this time of year continues to show well. Here's an opportunity we won't get too often once this winter passes by - a Northern Shoveler sitting comfortably on a fresh layer of snow.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1250s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, FF, some highlights recovery to get some detail in the snow showing.

Lovely image Daniel. Loving all these snow photos, I wish someday I get the opportunity to photograph in the snow, seems to add a very different and unique looks to the photos. Love the little ice pieces on the duck's head.

Here in Southern California we literally have hundreds of these at my favorite Wildlife Sanctuary this time of year, they're one of my favorite ducks. Very cool to see this Drake hunkered down in the snow. Your excellent exposure control has produced wonderful color and detail in this profile Daniel, and I can't remember seeing another calling NS... nice. Very well done.

That's funny Daniel as I think of shooting these guys on our nice sunny late winter and early spring days, not sitting in a bit of freezing snow, although he looks pretty cool in there as his beautiful colors contrast well with the bright white snow. Good look at the inside of the bill with the bealine type strainers of this species. Nice to see you are still getting shots of this guy.
