    Default Grebes Rushing

I had the great opportunity to have been invited by fellow BPNer Bob Serling and his friend Chris to a location where both Western and Clark's Grebes were known to be "Rushing".
This is the term for the side by side running dance that they perform as part of their pair bonding ritual. It was awesome to see for the first time in my life and I was amazed at how much water they displace and how loud the rushing actually was in the calm of early morning. This is a pair of Clark's grebes doing their thing. Thanks again Bob and Chris for the invite, it was a real thrill!!

Thanks as always for looking and for your input. I appreciate it.

I also wanted to say thanks again to everyone for all their help and input over the past year on my images. Image of the year is a real honor, especially amongst such a talented group of photographers!!

What an action shot! Both birds are in focus and eyes are visible. Whites are nicely exposed on the birds and I liked the crop you chose.

Thanks Joe. It was a tough one is right and the first time they rushed I had just gotten done shooting some pintail flying by and didn't have time to change my exposure so blew the Pi#@ out of them.
Lucky we got a few more runs that morning!

Killer image Dave. You nailed it. It must be a great experience watching (much less photographing) this ritual. A beauty for sure.

Great image of one of nature spectaculars. Well exposed, nice how they rushed straight towards you. Nice crop too.

One word Dave - beautiful! This is a classic rushing shot, made even better with the bright yellow, 3-part foot so clearly visible on the lead bird. That was a great time, just wish we could get them to rush in closer to shore like they do when the water line is higher. But that's a minor quibble considering the beautiful weather we got and the amazing sight of seeing the Grebes rush.

Nesting season will start soon with an entirely new opportunity. We'll definitely need to get out there for that.

Hi David, great action, and love the symmetrical poses. Both sharp, and I do like the flying water. I would really be pleased if I could have this frame in my files. Well captured.
