One of the highlights of my week in Yellowstone with Dale was the time we got to spend with a Bobcat along the Madison River. I had never seen a bobcat in the wild before so a new species for me to photograph! She didn't seem to mind all the big lenses pointed at her and a little while after we arrived she sat up and then headed along the river's edge to see if she could find some dinner. She wasn't successful while we were there but it was fun with all the photographers/paparazzi following along on the opposite bank. Here's a portrait of when she first sat up and had a look around. Thanks to Dale for letting me take a few with his 800mm. She was at least 100 feet away if not more.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Rachel, Im sure you are over the moon with this sighting, and congrats on your first sighting. Great eye contact, and she looks quite relaxed. I like the fur detail, and always enjoy your wintery BG's.

I'd be pretty stoked with this, Rachel, as I'm sure you are!

Perfectly placed in the frame (yes had to scroll right again to make sure, on the laptop ) and exposure looks great from the laptop.

Well we were fortunate to see the bobcat again this year during the tour. I like the composition here and the exposure is spot on. There was some discussion about snow detail on one of my posts so let me say I can see detail within the plane of focus but not in the BG which is outside the plane of focus, so detail could not possibly be seen. Great to get the eye contact she sure doesn't pay much attention to people! Well done!

Hi Rachel, I like the contrast in setting with the old log (as an anchor) in the FG and the snow bank encompassing the subject. Nice pose and those ear tuff are just gorgeous. If it was me, I might just add a % Midtone channel layer & crisper up the whites a fraction, both ON:LY applied to the subject, I think it just adds a bit more Tonal contrast.

Sweet bobcat photo Rachel. Been awhile since my last sighting. I like the coy pose of the cat. The log provides a nice anchor for the image and I really like the view of the markings and tufts on the ear.

Hello Rachel !!! Congrats for the sighting , wonderful image indeed but for some reason it appears to me a bit soft , can be a bit more sharper .

    Hello Rachel,

Awesome sighting and image beautifully composed, and what an interesting look you got from this lovely Bobcat:) It almost looks like he is sulking!
A great opportunity and you made the best of it, well exposed, colours look spot-on to me. Lovely detail in the snow around him and that soft BG makes him stand out so nicely I truly enjoyed viewing, thank you Rachel!

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
