    Default Bison Parade

I am back from Yellowstone. Temps were much higher and snowfall much lower than most winters. Apparently by the end of the week the temps were about 75 degrees F higher this year than the same week last year (45 vs -30 last year). In fact, New York City was colder and had more snow while I was gone. I still managed to get some iconic Yellowstone images including this one. Taken in the interior of the park between Mammoth and Old Faithful.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Rachel, this is an excellent image, I like the parading bisons and their snow covered faces. Nicely composed with great colour.

    Hi Rachel,

Glad to see you made it home safely and that you are fully functional! This is a very strong image as we discussed, these are some great looking bulls and the snow on their heads helps out a lot.. I like the diagonal line of buffs and each animal being a bit more OOF.. I may be tempted to do some local adjustments on the FG to blur/soften the tracks and that's a personal decision as we discussed. It will be interesting to see the difference my composition will show with me shooting with twice the focal length. Of course there wasn't time to change lenses since this happened very quickly. Very much enjoyed the week with you and look forward to seeing more images.

Thanks Sanjeev and Dale. I'm glad you like this one. Dale - it will be interesting to see what your image looks like. I hope you'll post it once you process it. Steve and I learned in RSA that even sitting next to each other in the same vehicle, we all see things slightly differently. Thanks again for a fun week and your great guidance as well as the occasional equipment trade.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel great to hear you had a good time in Yellowstone even if the snow did not want to be there that much if i understood correctly .
Nice line up of the Bisonīs with very well handled HL and Sh . I like the fading sharpness/detail from the front to the back . The colors are looking very natural .I might just crop a bit from LHS for a more even look in the BKG , to avoid the pure white right at the edge of the frame.

I hope you guys have found some nice wolves to share .

Hi Rachel, very nice, love the line walking towards you and the overall colour and light. I might have been tempted to crop a little more off the LHS, perhaps to the smaller tree, but somehow it balances the tighter RHS.

    Looks like you had fun.

Hi Rachel, glad you are back safe and sound, and it certainly looks like you had plenty sightings of all sorts of subjects. I like the 'follow my leader' walking diagonally across the frame, together with how the DOF falls away to the back Bison. I always like a winter/snowy BG, and the setting works well. Of course, the two leading Bison with snow covered faces takes this over the top.

Thanks Andreas, Steve and Stu. This is ff but I'll take a look at the suggested crop. Unfortunately no wolves within range for images but several other subjects.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Great line up by the bison and a nice match to the subtle curve of the road/path. I like the subdued winter color and the BG of snow covered trees.

Love the lineup, DOF and setting here Rachel - looks like a productive week and I look forward to more images.
Some great feedback received already - perhaps I missed in scanning the comments, but why did you cut off the BG rightmost bison? I would have gone for even less LHS in order to get all of him in, unless there was clutter or another one coming in on that side?

Thanks Steve and Morkel. Morkel - Adjust your screen, the whole bison is there on the rhs with a bit more room too.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

    Hello Rachel,

    And Hello Morkel!

Internet is so slow around here that I too am looking at an incomplete image for some time now, not sure it was a blonde moment for Morkel or just Telkom South Africa at a snail pace...We pay for fast Internet and then have to wait twenty minutes to download a small Jpg:) Rachel, you had a very successful trip judging by your images, I like this as much as I liked the other recent posts and certainly worth waiting for the whole image to become visible:) Exceptional sightings, thoughtful processing, all exciting to view and I hope there's much more to see from this trip:)

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
