    Default Grey Heron in an urban setting



    Canon 7d, 400 f5.6 1/1000 sec F5.6 ISO 2000 Levels Vibrance and sharpening in LR5. Any comments gratefully received.

    The tire gives it away....an urban setting for sure. I like the contrast between the sharpness of the bird and the blurred bkgrd. The shine on the tire completes the bird image. Was this a tight crop? Just wondering how close you were because I can't seem to get near any of ours before they take off.

    It was a landscape shot and I have trimmed a little off the top and bottom. The bird was probably 15 yards away but I had a bit of cover so I could get nearer. I only got six shots before he spotted me and flew off.

    Unusual setting and a good shot. You might try talking to the herons. I have found if you sit still on a rock or log about 15 yards away in full view without any cover and talk quietly to a heron, it will stay around for a few minutes. It's the sudden movements that spook them.

    Interesting and different. You might have a look at a warmer white balance -- it's on the blue side.

    Thanks Diane. I hadn't noticed the white balance. I have warmed it up as suggested and it does look better. Thanks again
