This is a pair of scaly-breasted munias. They are quite common where I live in Mumbai, India. This pair was taking a bath in a roadside puddle.
Photo shot handheld with a Canon 100-400L lens on a Canon 7D body at 400mm. 1/1000th second @ f/5.6, ISO 640. RAW processed in Photoshop CS6. About a 50% crop. Small adjustments like levels, brightening and contrast. There were dual catchlights in the eyes of both birds. I cloned out one of the two.
Finally, a round of unsharp mask on the birds and noise reduction on the background.
These birds adorable and nice to see them both sharp in the frame. Since their reflections aren't really that clear, I think I would crop from the bottom and go for a conventional horizontal image. Your green water is great and really shows off these birds well!
Beautiful light and sharpness. I can see what Marina is saying, but despite being imperfect, I'm somehow enjoying the reflections. I'd run NR on the water. Nicely done Akshay.
