    Default The water is coming

    Hello,

Birds are sometimes hindered by ships passing by on the Western Scheldt.
The Western Scheldt is an estuary, connecting the river Scheldt with the North Sea and an important shipping route to the Port of Antwerp, Belgium.
It is about 5 km wide and the ships generate waves that reach the shoreline, sometimes very spectacular.
Here we see a curlew, still at ease, but the waves are reaching the shoreline, visible on the BG.
After this shot I took 9 more pictures of the bird, the water on the BG getting more and more churning and the bird getting more and more nervous.
In the last picture I shot, only the rear and legs of the bird were visible in the upper-left corner......
I was too late, because my hands were benumbed by the cold......
Here I used a bit faster shutterspeed than in my previous posting, I think the sharpness is indeed a bit better now, in spite of the higher ISO value. The weather was half overcast with low incident light, a very good condition for the small sensor of the Sony.
    Comments are welcome!

    Kind regards,
    Kees

I'm only on my iPhone right now so will reply further later when I can get to my laptop for a better look. When you say original bitmap, is the camera capturing a JPEG? (What are its capture modes?).

What is your sensor size? APS-C? 1000 is a somewhat high ISO for a small sensor, limiting resolution, and the shutter speed could be marginal for the best detail. Cropping to 30% might Not be the best quality.

Sharpness looks good although there is some grain limiting the resolution of fine detail. There is a blue cast on the rocks which is interesting and different, but it could be a choice to warm the overall color balance.

I might consider darkening the light water at the top if you can do a masked adjustment.

You might consider cropping or cloning the piece of a rock on the right edge.

Keep shooting! Would love to see more.

    Diane, thanks for your reply!
The light water on the top is something that surprised me when I saw the picture after posting....
Because it did not strike me when I processed the picture.
    Now I know why....
I turned the colour of the BPN screen in the Quick Style Chooser on brown (instead of BP-light) and then the picture looked more natural.
It's because the colour of the screen in BP-light is almost identical to the colour of the water on the top of the picture!

About the rock on the right edge I've been in doubt whether to show it or not, I decided to show it because I find the water flowing around the rock
    an interesting detail.
But now I see I should have shown just a little bit more of the rock.

    Kind regards.
